“Heim ist dort, wo du dich wohl fühlst”
I’ve been late posting my life experiences because of a transition in life I’ve had to make. Having been forced into another life, I began to feel resentment toward everything it represented. The feeling of being used had somehow settled in and I began to no longer want anything else to do with it. It’s over. That meant I needed to leave my beloved Germany, a place where I had not only learned the language and lived for the last fourteen years, but also a place where I fell in love with.
I remember that day in Frankfurt I bought two pieces of luggage, toiletries, some extra notebooks, and another fountain pen. Two days earlier I watched the movers come to my home and pack up all my beautiful memories and things that I enjoyed seeing every day. There was a large book collection, If I was going to have to make this transition, then I wanted to make a transition in the best way I could. I wanted somewhere with warm weather, beautiful views, less of a globalized culture, and excellent food. That’s why I bought a one-way ticket to Rome, Italy, with the hopes of acquiring a new job to sustain me for a while until something permanent could present itself to me. That was three months ago.
I took up residence in Rome, Italy. It’s a special place for me. One with a lot of history and for me, a promising future. Me naturally being a wanderer, decided to explore the outskirts and other surrounding places. The first stop was Salerno, a port city at the beginning or end depending on which direction you are sailing, of the Almafi coast. I stayed there two days before I left towards Pompeii.
Pompeii was surreal. They say the small city had about 10 or 20 thousand residents before they all met their demise but, to me, it feels like it could be much larger. I was shocked at how well preserved the ruins were. It was a bitter sweet trip and only about 30 minutes with a train from Salerno. I set sail toward Naples thereafter thinking about those poor people. They didn’t stand a chance. In fact Its been said that even today scientists are finding debris in places as far away as Turkey that originally arrived there as a result of the eruption. The volcanoes is to be respected.
Spontaneously I decided to visit Positano which is another small city along the Alma Coast. It is beautiful, even when it’s filled with tourist.
